Fhtv computer club March 19, 2010

The meeting was called to order by President Frank Bevan at 9:00 a.m. There were sixteen members and five guests present. Ann Iverson ,treasurer, reported we have a balance of $1,654.01.
Trendnet has bought out Nomad, our WiFi service.
Frank asked for volunteers or nominations for next years officers. Hearing none, he and Ann will continue in their respective offices next year. A secretary is still needed.
Members were reminded of the following: 1-do not click "remember me"when signing into your E mail 2-do not log off before your E mails have been succesfully sent 3-do not click print more than once, have patience and 4 -do LOG OFF.
Bob Rogers suggested that our security problems might have been caused by someone inserting a flash drive and introducing a Trojan Horse by so doing.
After much discusson, Jean LaVois made a motion and Jeff Neeper seconded it that we take the club computer to the computer store on Camino Seco for updates to Windows 7, clean up, and installing the anti virus Avast. Motion past.
It was noted that Cox does not have an installation charge, or require a contract and is only $17.95 a month for hi speed.

Fhtv computer club March 5,2010

There were 19 members in attendance, the largest this season.
Frank asked for volunteers for a nominating committee and hearing none he will ask around to see who will be run for secretary. He and Ann will continue to serve in their respective offices. Ann did ask to be relieved of running the Friday night movies. Bob Rogers said he thought Clare would be willing to take over next season. The last movie this season will be on April 9th.
It was noted that we can now use Blu Ray with our new projector.
A question was asked how to speed up a computer. Suggestions were to defrag every two weeks, have fewer items on the start up menu, and use clean up--(ccleaner }.is a free program.
Some prefer Firefox over internet explorer for a brouser.
Ann showed pictures taken by a man from East of make up being applied and other scenes before the Entertainers Show.
President Frank gave us a very interesting program on using Skype. He prearranged a hookup with a cousin in Messina, Sicily so we were able to hear and see the two converse.
Frank told us that Google will store up to 10 gigs of pictures free.
