President Frank Beavan called the meeting to order in the Fiesta room at 9:00 a.m. There were 10 members present. It was announced there would not be a meeting next Friday as Show and Tell would be using the Fiesta room. We have submitted a meeting time change for next year of Thursday aft. 2:00 to 3:00 instead of Friday morning.
Ann showed her Magic Jack (cost $20.00) that attaches to a portable phone through a computer enabling one to make free phone calls. It works more efficiently with a desk top rather than a laptop computer.
You tube is a good source of helpful information and is free.
April 1 will be our last meeting of the winter/spring season.

The meeting was called to order by president Frank Beaven. He asked for nominations for officers for next year. He offered to run as president again. Seeing no nominations, Jean LaVoie made a motion to reelect the present officers, John McMahon seconded and the motion passed.
Remember,program suggestions are always welcome!
Frank asked that each one of us send him an Email with address in the subject line so he can put our addresses in a folder for announcements he might have about upcoming meetings. His E mail is----fjbeaven@aol.com
Our projector needs an adjustment after it was raised. Thanks to John McMahon it is now better.
Frank showed his Cannon travel printer which is easy on ink and does a great job. His cost around $300 .
Paul had a question regarding printing and the suggestion made by Ann was to hold control and push p.
Frank demonstrated how you can watch previous TV programs on your computer by entering hulu. You can also view some by entering ABC.
We might have a program on facebook at the next meeting. Watch for an announcement.

FHTV computer club 2/11/11

In the absence of our president we held a round table discussion.
We were again reminded to erase email addresses when forwarding emails.
Jean La Voie told us that HP will provoid us with a disc for $10.00 so an older printer will be compatible with a new computer.
Paul asked how to limit or erase pop up blockers.Since he uses google it was suggested he ask them.
Paul Black brought his Kindle reader to show us. It is tied to Amazon from whom books are downloaded at an amazing speed.
Connie Wanderscheid downloads books from any public library onto her computer--as long as she has a library card. This is free and they can be kept for 21 days.
Ardell wondered why she can't play music on her computer and the simple logical answer was she doesn't have a built in speaker on her laptop!!!
President Frank has arranged for 12 computer club members to take a field trip to the Apple store on the north side next Friday leaving the club house at 8:00 a.m.

FHTV Computer/Technology Club February 4, 2011

The meeting was called to order by President Frank Beaven at 9:00 a.m. Due to a cold he turned over the meeting to treasurer Ann Iverson. She told us about a conversation with our park manager Ken Shrensel regarding Wifi speed. With so many connected it simply won't be fast enough. We have asked him for a 30 mg connection in the fiesta room which would be password protected if just for the computer club members. If that comes about we may have to raise our dues next year.
If you leave your wifi connection on ,when you pass a hot spot it will connect and you will be using up minutes unknowingly so know how to turn it off.
It was decided that since we have a little over $1800.00 in our treasury we will not put on a meatloaf dinner in March--also there wasn't much inthusiasm in those present to work on one.
We will reserve a date for next year.
Ann presented a short program on Print Spooling. It seems some of us are too hasty when printing and hit the print button more than once thus wasting paper. Some also don't cancel the print which then means Ann or someone has to do it. To check to see if you have prints in the que do the following: go to 1. adjust your computer settings 2. hardware and sounds 3. view device and printers 4. default printer.
Next weeks program hopefully will be on (smart phones). Paul Black will bring his Kindle from which he gets book downloads from Amazon. Marcel Dewulf showed his I Pad which is smaller and faster than a computer. Starting price for an I Pad is $499.00. One cannot attach a printer to one however.

FHTV computer club minutes Jan. 21,2011

Pres Frank called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. There were fourteen members present. Treas Ann reported receiving $118.00 dues from the photo club and $3.65 income from the use of our printer. She said our manager will be getting printer ink for us at their price.
Only if you have your own router is your password protected.
Ann made a motion we change the name of our club to Technology club. After discussion, Jean La Voie amended the motion to Computer Technology Club. Motion passed.
U tube is what you use if you need to have help on the computer.
Android is an operating system.
Frank presented a program on Skype by contacting a friend who was in his truck on the road in Texas. We were able to see and hear him. Skype is a free system. You need a camera and speaker on your computer. If you have an older computer, you can purchase a webcam.
Skype and MSN messenger are tied to Facebook.
Frank also showed his I phone. He will have more information on that another time.

President Frank called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Treasurer Ann Iverson gave her report as follows: $1707.07 in the bank and dues collected $20.00 on hand. She wrote a check for $50.00 for a speaker for the camera club (camera club is part of computer club.)
There were 15 members present.
We were advised to upgrade both adobe and flash to help avoid viruses and also disable java script.
Ann told us about making phone calls using magic jack. It plugs into the computer and costs $20/year. It works best with a small telephone such as a Princess.
Ione Kontecki stopped in and reminded us we are all members of the photo club and announced there woukd be a speaker on Thursday.
The program for the next meeting will be on using Skype.

President Frank Beaven introduced himself and treasurer Ann Iverson and sec. Ardell Easterday. He asked any new members present to introduce themselves and to state what they would like to learn while attending the meetings. There were 12 members present.
The treasury balance is approximately $1700.00. Dues are $5.00/ year. Members wishing to use the club computer may get the password from either Ann or Ardell. PLEASE do not give out the password to ANYONE. The $1 Friday night movies are sponsored by the computer club and anyone may turn in a suggestion. Clare Rogers with Bob's help? is in charge of the movies.
In a discussion of our funds, Ann Iverson said the old computer (the one open to the public) might need replacing in the near future for aprox. $300.
Ardell made a motion that we do not put on a meatloaf dinner this year because our financial picture looks to be solvent. After discussion, Ardell agreed to table the discussion for 2 weeks.
Bob Rogers made the suggestion we change the name of the club to Technology Club since there are so many new products on the market.
Ann Iverson will ne in charge of next weeks program.
Frank brought his internet radio but wasn't able to show what he wanted. Pandora radio.com is what he uses. Costs run from $100 to $300. He told us we can get back programing on TV statins by going to hulu.com.

FHTV Computer Club meeting 12/10/10

Eleven were in attendance at the first meeting this fall/winter. In lieu of the absence of our president, treasurer Ann Iverson (treasurer) ran the meeting. .
She passed out three handouts--Buying a computer, New things you could do with your (7) computer, and How to Diagnose and Repair Windows Problems.

Manager Ken Shrensel stopped and and in reference to problems some are having connecting to Tanglewood said that a big problem may be caused by so many watching movies from Netflick on their computers.

A new feature on Windows 7 is "sticky notes". Click programs, acsessories, sticky notes and a reminder note will appear in the upper right corner of the screen.

Before putting your credit card number on line be sure there is a padlock showing!

Since tax forms need to be kept for three years only, download them on a thumb drive to save file space..

The final meeting of the season was very poorly attended. Teasurer Ann Iverson reported a balance on hand of $2,222.00. She recently paid out $328.60 to have the club's computer repaired. She paid out $300.00 for ink for the printers this year and took in only $50.00.
TrendNet is now our Wifi operator.
By Dec. 13th we must have someone certified to use the kitchen for popping popcorn and or putting on a dinner.

The meeting was called to order by President Frank Bevan at 9:00 a.m. There were sixteen members and five guests present. Ann Iverson ,treasurer, reported we have a balance of $1,654.01.
Trendnet has bought out Nomad, our WiFi service.
Frank asked for volunteers or nominations for next years officers. Hearing none, he and Ann will continue in their respective offices next year. A secretary is still needed.
Members were reminded of the following: 1-do not click "remember me"when signing into your E mail 2-do not log off before your E mails have been succesfully sent 3-do not click print more than once, have patience and 4 -do LOG OFF.
Bob Rogers suggested that our security problems might have been caused by someone inserting a flash drive and introducing a Trojan Horse by so doing.
After much discusson, Jean LaVois made a motion and Jeff Neeper seconded it that we take the club computer to the computer store on Camino Seco for updates to Windows 7, clean up, and installing the anti virus Avast. Motion past.
It was noted that Cox does not have an installation charge, or require a contract and is only $17.95 a month for hi speed.

There were 19 members in attendance, the largest this season.
Frank asked for volunteers for a nominating committee and hearing none he will ask around to see who will be run for secretary. He and Ann will continue to serve in their respective offices. Ann did ask to be relieved of running the Friday night movies. Bob Rogers said he thought Clare would be willing to take over next season. The last movie this season will be on April 9th.
It was noted that we can now use Blu Ray with our new projector.
A question was asked how to speed up a computer. Suggestions were to defrag every two weeks, have fewer items on the start up menu, and use clean up--(ccleaner }.is a free program.
Some prefer Firefox over internet explorer for a brouser.
Ann showed pictures taken by a man from East of make up being applied and other scenes before the Entertainers Show.
President Frank gave us a very interesting program on using Skype. He prearranged a hookup with a cousin in Messina, Sicily so we were able to hear and see the two converse.
Frank told us that Google will store up to 10 gigs of pictures free.

FHTV computer club meeting Feb. 19, 2010

Ann Iverson reported the profit from our meatloaf dinner was $934.00. She also told us the new projector is here and cost $2,114.64 and the mounting bracket cost $220.99. The projector hopefully will be installed today and no spectaters needed !!!
President Frank gave a short program on using Hulu.com where one can watch any T.V. program at least ten days old. One needs at least 1.5 mgs. This is a legal program.

Ione reported Shirley Unrau is chairman for an awards program scheduled for March 11th when a judge will be here. Sign up with her. Charge will be $1 per photo entered into the judging.
Ann asked for help putting on the Friday night movies. Jean Lavois and Ardell offered to learn the procedure.

Friday, February 19 program for the computer club will be on How to Use HULU. We will explore how to use the television and movie sections of Hulu. We will also show you a stand-alone Internet radio.

During the past week the club has installed a new router in the fiesta room area. We hope that it will improve our connectivity to a great extent. We also have purchased a new overhead projector and hope to have it installed soon. I hope to see you at this week's meeting.

Ione reported that twelve went on the photo shoot yersterday. Next Thursday Andrew Beveton will put on a progrm on lighting at 3:30 p.m.
A new projector is being ordered and should arrive Tuesday. Computer club will pay 1/3 of the cost.
If you sign up for Cox internet they do not require you to sign a contract.
Ardell asked for more volunteers to do specific tasks for the meat loaf dinner that is being held that eve. Ticket sales have gone well and aprox 186 tickets were sold. Ann Iverson has done all the purchasing which is a huge job.
President Frank put on a program on how to change the size of pictures, etc. He said Windows Photo Gallery is free on the internet. Picassa will give 10 gigs free for web albums.
Treasurer Ann Iverson reported our treasury balance as of 1/29/2010 is $1,575.66. This breaks down into $235.00 income from dues.,$63.00 income from movies, 16.70 from people paying .10 cents to use our printer , $110.22 cost of ink, $126.89 new router, and $107.02 new printer, $18.49 popcorn to serve at movies.

\President Frank welcomed new members Connie Wunderscheid and Frank Summer.
He then announced that Ann Iverson and himself are available to troubleshoot computer problems.

No treasurers report was available at this time.

Apparently very few people are successful using Nomad at this time. Ann reported we have purchased a router which will soon be installed in the area of the fiesta room that should help. She also suggested momentarily turning off the firewall before connecting to Nomad.

It was brought up that one does not have to use Cox for their TV to use it for the internet.

A new printer has been purchased for the computer for public use. We need a sign reminding people they must pay .10 cents per copy for the ink.

President Frank put on a program on how to use Radio time.com which is a free program connecting one to radio stations all over the world. You can listen to the music while doing other things on your computer.

Bob Rogers asked if anyone had power speakers that we could use to make presentations more audible.

Our meatloaf dinner is now scheduled for Friday Feb. 5th and a movie will be included for the $6 price. A signup slip was passed around for workers for the dinner as we all need to help!! If you haven't signed up see Ann to see where you are needed. Tickets are being sold in the office as well as Sat. and Sun. mornings.

February 27, 2009

Ione – Foto Fun Club –Each of us think of gathering information for use next year – Reference: Meetings, topics and field trips or other items we may want to cover.
Frank – Many requests to get more information on Graigs List and Ebay and how to post and apply pictures.
Anne – Each of us should go into Graig’s List this week to see how it works.
Frank – Reference: Projector – A man from the camera store was in last week – He adjusted the projector – Making the display less dark. The colors are still bad. Frank will see if the Far Horizon Owner will foot the bill or half of it.
Ione - Mentioned Joining the Foto and Computer Clubs together because of many duplications, or possibly not including photo information in the Computer Club Itinerary.
Anne – DVD R/W discs are touchy when trying to burn and play – Example: Movie or Video. They’re ok to work with photos. A DVD can hold up to 2000 pictures.
When copying to discs, use R/W DVD, not read only. Using read only discs - You can’t add information to them.
Frank – Uses thumb drivers – Easier to use – Transfers files easily. His 8 GB thumb drives hold all his music, pictures, etc.

February 13, 2009

The meeting was called to order by Ann. Frank and Janee were absent.

The minutes of the February 6, 2009 meeting were read. There was a correction for the web address for the wifi components is www.dustydragon.com . I am sorry that I couldn’t read my notes.

Treasurer’s report was given as follows; Beginning balance was $1251.82 Income: dues and ink $95.00: February 13, 2009 balance was $1,346.82.

Movie for February 13, 2009 is SOMETHING HAS GOT TO GIVE.

There was some discussion about Windows Movie maker and getting music on computer and into slide shows. Some other questions were discussed.

Ann needs help with the pop corn and getting movie started also clean up after movie.

Tip of the day: We should all back up our computer in three other places besides the computer its self. Make two sets of CD’s of every thing on your hard drive. Put one set in a fire safe stored in cool protected place away from other CD’s. The other set get a friend to store for you under similer conditions as you did for the one you saved. The other site is on the internet. One site on the internet is carbonite.com promo code rush.
There is a charge. After the files have been down loaded carbonite will backup what you do every time you are on the computer.

The program for February 20,2009 will be Ann with a repeat of Trubo Tax. She will have numbers, etc. to go in the blanks so it will be easier to see how it works.

The program for February 27, 2009 will be presented by Janee on using your pictures to make slide shows with music, captions and or narration. Also how to get pictures in e-mail and other applications.

Computer Club meets at 8:45 on Fridays.

FAR HORIZONS COMPUTER CLUB

The January 2, 2009 Computer Club meeting was called to order by President Frank Beaven.

The Photo Fun Club will have their first meeting of the 2009 season January 8, 2009, 3:30 pm in the Fiesta Room.

Secretary Margaret Inness read the minutes of the December 19, 2008 meeting were read and approved as read.

Treasurer Anne Iverson gave the Treasurers report of $104.60 income from the Movie. The balance is 1634.40. Treasurer’s report was accepted.

Old business: discussion on buying a new tower for the Dot.Com room was held. The current one is running very poorly if at all.
Several members feel that some of the problem is Cox’s wire coming into the Dot.Com room is defective. The Club Board will pay half and the Park will pay the other half. Bob Rogers moved the Club buy a computer tower for the Dot.Com Room. Motion was seconded by Dennis Sink. The motion was approved.

The Annual Meat Loaf Dinner was discussed. Curt Pederson volunteered to Chair the MEAT LOAF DINNER. Wanda Gear moved that the Computer Club and the Photo Fun Club host the Annual Meatloaf Dinner on February 2, 2009. Seconded by Bob. Motion passed. Curt Pederson is having a Committee meeting. Jack Mitchel, Janee Aronoff and Anne Iverson are a part of the committee.

Next weeks program will be on Turbo Tax , presented by Anne Iverson.
Today’s program was given by Jack Mitchel on use of tables.

December 12, 2008

The meeting was called to order by acting President Frank Beaven. Frank reminded us that dues are due. Twenty members were in attendance. Anne passed out some copies of the current membership list. Members were asked to check the spelling of their names and e-mail addresses.
The minutes were read and approved. Anne Iverson gave the treasurers report. Balance on December 5, 2008 was $1379.26; interest .75; deposit $118.62; cash on hand $20.00; Expenses 0.00. Balance on hand December 12, 2008 $1518.63. Treasurer’s report accepted as read. Anne said that one of the chairs in the Dotcom room needs some castors replaced. OLD BUSINESS There was some discussion on getting a new tower for computer in dotcom room.
Bob Rogers moved we need to have a policy sheet written up to cover what the management expects the Computer Club to cover in the dotcom Room. The motion was seconded by John McMahon. The motion passed. Bob Rogers will contact the management and get a policy sheet written.
There was some discussion about the signup sheets in the dot com room. The signup sheets, if used, is a way of checking the use of the computers.
Motion to adjourn was made by Bob Rogers and seconded by Dennis Sink.
Meeting adjourned for the program on Email. Many interesting suggestions were given.

The December 19, 2008 Computer Club meeting was called to order by President Frank Beaven.

Janee Aronoff volunteered to fill the office of Vice President. Janee was accepted as Vice President by the members.

Secretary Margaret Inness was late. The Treasurers report was read by Ann. She reported a balance of $1518.63 and dues $25.00. Expenses, casters on chair in Info.com room $13.83. New balance $1529.80. The Treasures report was accepted.

The minutes of the December 12 meeting were read and approved. Fifteen members attended the meeting

The meeting was adjourned for the program on Social Networking. Just before ten a lady asked for the floor to express her concerns about not being able to get on the internet with the computer in the dot com room.

Frank opened the meeting. Minutes of last weeks meeting were read and approved.

The Treasure’s report was given by Anne as follows: Balance of $2008.95.

The last movie for the 2008-2009 season will be April 5, 2009. Mr. Deeds is tonight’s movie. The Contest movie will be Friday March 13, 2009. The Movie showing March 13 will be AUSTRALIA.

The MEAT LOAF DINNER 2010 will be scheduled by Frank and Anne.

There needs to be more information coordination between the Computer Club and the Photo Fun Club so the Computer Club is not giving the same type of programs as the Photo Fun Club. Some Computer Club members are not coming because the programs are not of interest to them.

An election of officers needs to be held Friday March 27, however the Show and Tell Day for the Park is that day therefore there will not be a Computer Club meeting that day. The Election will be held Friday March 20, 2009. The nomination committee is Franck Beaven, John McMann, Marcell DeWolf and Ned McGreoger.

Frank called the meeting to order.

The minutes of the January 30, 2009 meeting were read. Curt moved the minutes be approved as read. The motion was seconded by Bob. The minutes were approved.

The Treasurer’s report was given as follows Beginning balance $1145.82. Income: Movie $31.00; Dues $5.00; Dinner tickets $660.00. Total income; $696.00. Expenses: Dinner $298.00. Ending Balance; $ 1,251.82.

The movie for February 6, The Interpreter. The movie contest will be a gift certificate to the person who brings most new people to the Movie.

A report on the Meat Loaf Dinner was given as follows; a total of 110 tickets were sold. We were short on corn and potatoes. There was some meat loaf and cake left over. The help showed up and did a good job. The dinner did make a profit.

Gary Puro is in the hospital with the flu. A card was passed around to be signed.

Bob talked about the use of the Clubs laptop computer by the club members. The computer was purchased for the purpose of the members being able to use it to prepare programs, etc. Ann will keep the computer with Clubs Blu ray player. Ask Ann to be able to use the computer.

Frank gave a program on home made wifi antennas from the internet. The web address is www.dustyclayron.com/wifi.htm many of the supplies can be picked up any where kitchen gadgets are sold. The electronic parts are available at this site. Dennis Sink will give his version in the near future.

Jack, Ann and Bob will do a program on making videos.

Janee and Frank were working on getting the computer connected to the projector for Janee’s program on Safe Internet Surfing: Anne conducted a short business meeting. The Treasurer’s report showed a balance of $1145.82; Income: Movie, $26 and Dues: $10 Total income $36. Expenses: Movies $12.99. Ending Balance: $1168.83.

The minutes of the January 23 meeting were read and approved. There was discussion about getting the minutes on the Blog some suggestions were given. They will be tried.

Anne is running a contest to get more people to the movies.

Safe Internet Surfing

Dangers of e-mail
Contest scams, don’t give out any of your information, remember to say NO
Viruses: don’t open attachments even from friends and family unless you are expecting the attachments from that person.
If you are writing to several people at a time, use the blind copy button to put in your addresses (BCC). If you are forwarding e-mails that have lots address delete the address before you forward it as a courtesy to the people you are sending to and also to yourself.
Pay attention to URL’s. Phishing is another way for scammers to do social engineering,
Study your interests, etc. If you are called about your credit card don’t answer any questions. Then you call the number on the back of your credit card to check if there is a problem. Don’t trust e-mail links. Use favorites for frequently used addresses.

Tip of the day: when you are done banking close your browsers before going to another site. There were more tips but I didn’t get them all down. A Firewall keeps things out but lets things go out.

The meeting was chaired by Anne as the President was not present.

The minutes for January 9, 2009 and January 16, 2009 were read and approved.

Anne gave the treasurer’s report as follows: balance $1680.40; income: movie, dues, ink $88.81; FHTV half of computer $252.48; total income $341.39. Expenses: ink, $74.57, $504.65 including $104 for 2 year warranty, Photo Fun ($250). Ending Balance $1145.82. There was some discussion about the cost of the computer. Anne cleared up the questions and the report was accepted.

Dinner report was given by Curt Pederson and John Mc Mahon as follows: five stores were contacted with varying results. Jack Mitchell will be in charge of the kitchen crew. We need to work on selling more tickets.

Arrangements have been made to show the Super Bowl game with sound at the dinner.

Photo Fun report: Phil Harvey, a professional photographer gave a slide show showing some of his techniques. He was paid $50.

Janee Aronoff gave an informative program on Excel. Janee gave us some short cuts; Ctrl z undo; Ctrl s save; Ctrl v paste; Ctrl c copy; Ctrl x cuts .

Acting President Frank Beaven opened the meeting and welcomed new members. No formal meeting was held on November 28 and no Minutes were kept. Dues collected, to date, from 14 members, $70.00. Treasurer Anne Iverson has returned from her vacation and gave the summers financial statement. Balance on September 29, 2008, $1855.66. Expenses for ink, paper and the purchase of a Blue Ray Player were $476.40. New Balance, as of October 30, 2008, $1379.26 This Balance does not include, this seasons, dues and movie income. Computer Club dues includes membership in the Photo Club.
New Business
A Committee was formed to choose films for the Club’s Friday night Movies.
Janee Aronoff, Anne Iverson, Chris Puro and Claire Rogers offered to serve.
Bob Rogers initiated a discussion of programs for our future meetings. Many suggestions were made and the following schedule was set up:

30 - Antennas for wifi
It was agreed that we would put on our annual dinner, scheduled for February 1, 2009. Frank Beaven reminded the members that this requires many volunteers. Curt Pedersen volunteered to put on a short entertaining film during the dinner, “Idiosyncrasies of the English Language for Non-native Speakers”.

Acting President Frank Beaven opened the meeting. He asked if there were any new arrivals. Wanda Gear raised her hand. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes of the last meeting. Minutes were accepted as read.
There was no new business.
Discussion of Movies to be shown on Friday evening. Claire Rogers offered to serve on a committee to choose which films to show.
Program - Frank Beaven did a presentation on Power Point. It included the WikiHow site which offers a tutorial for new users. There is a charge for the download. He then went to the Power Point embedded in his computer. Using the instructions there he started to build a series of slides, captions, etc. The program lasted over 30 minutes with active participation of all the members.
When the meeting was adjourned most said they had a much better understanding of how to use the program.

Acting President Frank Beaven opened the meeting. Last March Frank was elected Vice President and Program Chairman. Due to the resignation of President Glenn Butler Frank has assumed that role. He asked for volunteers to aid him. Last seasons Acting President Gary Puro offered to help with Programs.
The Club and the Public computers and their 3way printers located in the info.com room are all in working condition. Charge for printing is still 10 cents/page.
Members who need help - Julian wants to personalize his Home Page and Coralee needed to find the Product Key for her new computer and asked about transferring her folders and files from her old computer to the new one. Members offered help and information.
Frank Beaven suggested we plan programs on wifi and using routers and photo programs. Some mentioned were Pixia, Flicker and Picassa.. Other programs were security, pod casting, and Power Point.

Last year’s Acting President Gary Puro opened the meeting. Glenn Butler, who was elected President March 28, 2008, has since left FHTV. In a telephone conversation with Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey, he stated his intention to resign. Vice President Frank Beaven has not yet arrived in the Park. Gary will chair the meetings until Frank arrives.
Ione Condit announced the Photo Club will start in January. Itinerary will be much like last season, meetings here in the Park, going afield on photo shoots and inviting guest speakers to some of the meetings.
Gary reminded us that members of the computer club are also members of the Photo Club and vice versa.

Changing computer settings, etc.

Acting President Gary Puro opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes of the March 21 meeting. Correction, Glenn Butler did not offer to put on a program for next year. Correction made. Treasurer Ann Iverson reported movie income $30.00.
New business - Manager Joanne Sanford said Park Owner Chuck Hays has agreed to pay ½ the cost of a new electric, remote controlled movie screen. Discussion about size and quality followed. It was moved and seconded that the club purchase the screen now. The Ayes prevailed.
Ione Condit reported on the Photo Club and new officers for the 2008/2009 season. Ione will be Chairperson of Programs and Communication, Janee Aranoff, Chair- person of Membership and photo panels(in the info.com room). The photo club spent, this year, a total of $200.00 for speakers and incidental costs of photo shoots. Bob Rogers moved to support, financially, that branch of the Computer Club known as the Foto Fun Club at the same level next year. The Ayes prevailed.
Gary Puro asked for a member to give a "Tip of the day" - Frank Beaven said, when you travel south for the winter bring the discs for the programs you have installed on your computer.
Frank Beaven gave a most interesting demonstration of how to use a voice recognition program. He used "Dragon Naturally Speaking" a program he uses to write letters to friends and family. He demonstrated many features you can use. The program will, on voice request, read back to you, what you have written. You do need to train with it so it understands your speech patterns and inflections, just as you do with your navigation system.
Acting President Gary Puro announced it was time to vote for next years Officers.
He read the names of the candidates. For President, Glenn Butler, for Vice President and Program Chairman, Frank Beaven, for Treasurer, Ann Iverson, for Secretary, Margaret Inness. Since there was only one person running for each office Acting President Puro asked for a motion to elect them by acclimation. The move was made and seconded and the vote "For" was unanimous. Then, Gary Puro handed the gavel to the new President of the Far Horizons Computer Club, President Glenn Butler.

Foto Fun Assessment of Year's Activities

This year the Foto Fun sub-club of the Computer Club sponsored the following activities:
5 Programs 6 Photo Shoots 2 Organizational Meetings

We had 36 members, adding 16 new members to the Computer Club.

The following ideas were solutions to concerns shared and discussed at the meeting:

Next year we will submit thumb drives to Glenn Butler two days prior to a meeting. He will then download all images to one file to be shared at the meeting. This will allow us to view more images in a shorter amount of time. Matted photos can still be submitted at the start of the meeting.

In order to have time for sharing of photos at each meeting, we will begin meetings at 3:30. This should allow us time for announcements, a program and the viewing of club members’ images.

This year we gave an honorarium to three speakers and also a check to La Reinda Ranch. The computer club has agreed to fund us at the same level next season.

We will continue with a mixture of programs and photo shoots. We will, again invite a judge to critique our best photos. A complete list of program ideas and photo shoots were presented, discussed and rated. The following suggestions received the highest ratings and will be the core from which next year's activities will be based.

Acting President Gary Puro opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes of the March 14 meeting. Two corrections were noted, Gary Puro is "Acting President" and the names of the Nominating Committee were omitted. Corrections were made. Treasurer Ann Iverson reported income from dues $5.00, movie $13.00. New balance $1807.55. Margaret Inness moved to accept the report as read. The Ayes prevailed.
Old Business - Ann Iverson contacted Costco, where our HD DVD player was purchased, about their rebate program for the unit due to the rapid acceptance of Blu-ray by the movie and video industries. Costco offered to refund the money or apply it to the purchase of the more expensive Blu-ray for an additional $179.00. Ann asked the members to offer their suggestions. It was moved and seconded to take the refund and purchase the Blu-ray in the Fall. The Ayes prevailed. The possibility of cost sharing with the Park and other Clubs was mentioned. The digital projector was bought that way. Ann said she was still talking with Park Manager, Joanne Sanford, about replacing the movie screen.
Bob Rogers said the dimming of the projector bulb was cured by cleaning the lens.
New Business - Ardell Easterday, a member of the Nominating Committee, reported that the Committee’s choices for President and for Vice-President both declined to run. A member made a floor nomination of Bob Rogers, for President. He declined to run. John Mahon said he would consider serving in either office. Glenn Butler said he would run for President but, only if he had a full slate of Officers to assist him. Frank Beaven also offered to run. Ann Iverson agreed to run for Treasurer. Margaret Inness will run for Secretary. Bob Rogers said we should also look to the Photo Club for nominees, they are members of the Computer Club

Acting President Gary Puro opened the meeting. Acting Secretary, Dolores Dewey, read the minutes of the February 22 meeting. Accepted as read. Treasurer, Ann Iverson reported expenses $100.00 to PhotoFun Club for guest speakers.
Ann Iverson asked for help collecting fees for printer use in the info.com room. Janee Aronoff composed a message to be installed on the two computers’ desktops stating the cost per sheet and where the money box is located.
Discussion about the conversion of the present dvd technology to Blu-ray. Will our projector be compatable with Blu-ray?
President Puro announced that he had reserved, for the Club, the same time period and place for next seasons meetings. His "Tip of the Day" was a reminder to carry photos, etc. on a thumb drive for mobility and sharing. Ardell Easterday asked about the date of the Power Point program. (None set) She also reported that Walgreen’s can refill HP cartridges.
Ione Condit reported on the Photo Club and thanked the Computer Club for it’s financial support. Janee Aronoff gave a brief on transporting photos from one folder to another on your computer.
President Puro reminded the members that election of officers would be held March 28 and the Nominating Committee, Gary Puro, Ardell Easterday and Bob Rogers would meet, today, immediately following adjournment.

Tip of the day: Janee suggested a way of concealing messy cords by tucking them into a zippered cosmetic bag. No meeting 2-29-08 due to preparations for the "Evening in Paris" dinner. Discussion on cartridge maintenance suggested we look under trouble shooting, under maintenance. Only use water to clean. Frank Beaven offered to put on a program at a future meeting. Julian Babad has a CD he will share with members who come to his Unit.
Foto Fun - Will go to the Sonoran Desert Museum at the next meeting on 14 February. Sign-Up sheet, groups of 10 get a discount on the entry fee.
Vickie reported going to a site offering insurance to protect your identity from being stolen and picked up something that interfered with the performance of her computer. Frank Beaven suggested putting an alert on each of the 3 credit reporting agencies so only you can make changes on your account. Gary said the service is free if you are a subscriber. Several members reported theft of their ID. Advice - keep your anti virus and Firewall up to date
Program - Janee on use of Control Panel and all of the settings available on your Mouse and customizing your system to make it more user friendly for you.
No meeting next week, 15 February, because of Fashion Show set up.

Gary Puro opened the meeting at 9AM in the Fiesta room. Minutes were approved as read. Treasurer will give a complete financial report next meeting. She did report a profit of $555 from the dinner after expenses of $477.30 were subtracted from the sale of 173 tickets.

New business: Help is needed to re-adjust the overhead projector by someone who is willing to get up on a ladder. Jack Mitchell volunteered.

Thanks was given to Ann and her helpers for their work on the dinner. Suggestion was made to schedule a Saturday night program for Ione and Elaine to present their programs since they were shortened at the dinner. We would all like to hear about their interesting experiences.

Ardell suggested we give $20 to Delores and Ann in appreciation for their volunteer work for our Friday night movies. Everyone was in favor.

Gary asked for volunteers to present programs at future meetings. Janee volunteered to present a program on control panel operations Feb 8th. Jack volunteered for Feb 15th. The programs will be listed in the Villager.

Suggestion was made to advertise our dinner as Meatloaf Dinner sponsored by the computer club so everyone will know it’s not only for members.

Ione reported a very successful Foto shoot and showing of pics taken at the ranch. Next shoot will be at the zoo.

Frank Beaven presented an interesting program on Podcasting.

Reports - Ann has 30 to 40 dinner tickets unsold, out of 200. The second half of the meeting will be updates for the dinner this coming Sunday. The first half will be an on screen program, given by Ann, about navigating Vista and using the Clubs computer in the info.com room.

Foto Fun Club - Janee said the club went to the ranch for a photo shoot this week. Next Thursday’s topic will be Basic Photo Editing using Photoshop or Picasa, bring your computers. Also, your photos from last weeks outing to share with members.

Gary gave a brief on the survey he handed out at our first meeting of the season. 1)Meetings - Many like the present format. Some think that club business should be conducted by the Board of Directors and meetings could be about extending our knowledge of computing and using programs. 2)Choice of Q & A time varied, 5 to 15 minutes. Those needing special help should meet 1 on 1 with other members. 3)Program interests, 14 suggestions (safety, viruses, malware, etc.)

Future Programs - Frank will do Podcast. Donna will do Power Point.

Dinner - Ann has job and time sheets. People who have volunteered for specific duties in the kitchen. People to set tables, to mix and set salads, to cut and distribute cake, to get food for the handicapped, etc., etc..

Meeting was called to order by Gary Puro at 9AM in the Fiesta room. Minutes for the January 11 meeting were read and approved. Treasurer reported a balance of $1351.61. Also included in her report was a gift of $50.00 to the Foto Fun club.

Reports: Dinner details - Ann reported ticket sales are slow. She plans to purchase gifts, computer oriented as well as others. She also asks for any gifts we have to recycle. Plans are to arrange them on a table and have people whose numbers are called, choose. Bring articles to the Fiesta room during set up.

Foto Fun Club: First photo shoot will be March 23 at 3:45PM. Most meetings will be on Thursdays with alternate meetings and photo shoots. Motion was made and seconded to allow Far Horizons East residents to become members of Computer and Foto Fun clubs.

Questions: (1) Someone asked for help to hook up to Cox - connect router - no one offered to help.
(2) Program Chairman asked for volunteers to do a program next week - no volunteers.
(3) Are there suggestions for future program topics. Questionaires were filled out.

Several helps were mentioned:
(1) Technical radio programs on National Public Radio give good free information.
(2) PC magazine is helpful.
(3) Cindy at Walgreens for photos

Meeting was called to order by Gary Puro at 9 in the Fiesta room

Minutes of the January 4 meeting were read and approved. Treasurer reported a new balance of $1269.61 reflecting $18 from the movie and $5 from dues. Janee added that $55 dues were collected at the FotoFun club meeting.

Committee reports: Margaret Innes reported that the cost of the new cords and surge protectors came to a total of $232.37.

Questions and answers: Gary expressed a concern about the legality of our showing the movies. Ann assured him that the park had permission to show them.

A question concerning the need for computer protection was answered. Windows VISTA has a built-in program. For information about different virus and spy ware protection programs, go to komando.com.

A question concerning the loss of an address book after switching to AOL was answered “don’t pay until it’s fixed.”

Question about entertainment for the dinner was answered by Ione Condit who will present a slide show about Australia and New Zealand.

Jane Czasnowski told us of her experiences selling on E-Bay. It was very entertaining as well as informative.

President Gary Puro opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes. Corrections - there is no www in the Club’s blog address and the next meeting today and not January 4, 2008. Corrections made. Treasurer Anne Iverson reported income from Dues $10.00, new Balance $1456.85. Accepted as read.
Anne Iverson reviewed the sign up sheet for the Club dinner workers. Al Mendenhall agreed to print the 200 dinner tickets. The key board for the public computer is no longer functioning. If we do not have a spare in storage, permission was given to purchase a new one. Gary Puro asked for suggestions on what to do with the wifi card that was donated to the Club. It was decided that an auction held sometime in January, for Club members only, was the fairest way to handle it. Janee Aronoff will store it until then.

Gary Puro asked if there were any formal rules for Club members. He was given a copy of the By Laws and a copy of our Mission Statement. He read both aloud, for the benefit of our new members. Ann Iverson brought the Membership Roster and asked why so many members were not attending meetings. Janee Aronoff said that when we resume regular instructional programs, in January, they will probably come. Gary Puro said there is a Power Point program coming in January. Anne Iverson stated that Jane Czasnowski will relate how she made $5000.00 on Ebay.

Q & A Time - Gary Puro solved the problem of the errant cursor on his new wireless keyboard. He clicked on Orientation. Janee Aronoff said her teaching website has been hacked and she hasn’t been able to fix it. Al Mendenhall has been transfering his movies from film onto his computer for storage on cds. They have flickers of light in them. He was told there are commercial businesses that will do it for you. More program suggestions, How to use Google, Excel, Works and the fun of Games and social networking. Next weeks program: freerice.com. Ask the Villager to put our program next to our listing.

Committee Reports - Margaret Innes researched AC hookups for laptops to save batteries. Surge controls available for $20-25 each, 25 ft drop cords for $10.00 each. Ann Iverson reported that new 102" movie screens, able to use HD, were available for $246.00. She spoke to FHTV Manager Joanne Sanford about sharing the cost to replace the screen. Manager Sanford seemed amenable to going to an electric controlled screen if replacement became necessary. She also said the sound system is going to be upgraded . Discussion about screen purchase followed: research prices online, locally and online with a company who could deliver the screen to their branch in the Tucson area. Ann Iverson and Marcel DeWulf have developed a “Internet Access Procedure” sheet to be posted in the Info.com room where the 2 computers are located and where laptop owners have access to a broadband connector. In addition, transients and residents can access the internet via their telephone(dial up or broadband), satellite tv, Nomad’s park wide wifi$ or the computer club’s free wifi available in the club house area.

Old subject revisited - Many users of the info.com room computers are still failing to log off when finished with their session. Member Janee Aronoff offered to print an instruction sheet on how to log off, for both computers, and post it in a prominent place in the Info.com room. Ardell Easterday asked for an instruction sheet on how to use the 3way printers, also. Ardell said member Al Mendenhall had been contacted by Dell about extending the warranty on the Computer Clubs private computer. Motion made and approved not to extend. Gary Puro will give a full report on his Survey in January. Ann announced, no movie tonight. Meeting adjourned.

14 persons were present.

President Ardell Easterday called the meeting to order. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the minutes. Treasurer Ann Iverson reported income from Dues $15.00, Movie $53.00, new Balance $1406.85.
Program Chairman Gary Puro asked for the completed Survey sheets to be turned in. Both computers were down last week because of an interruption of the electrical system last Friday evening. They were put back in service by Jonathon, the technician employed by the Park.
President Easterday asked for a review of the Club dinner. Sign up sheets are well filled, but no one has volunteered to prepare the meat loaf and to oversee the cooking of the food.

Two members complained that the Activities Office is reluctant to help with use of the info.com room computer. The one the club provides for the residents and transients to access their email and the internet. The Office feels that the computer club should provide this service. Member Marcel DeWulf volunteered to work with Ann Iverson to prepare a sheet with step by step instructions to access the Internet on the public computer.

New Business - Janee Aronoff announced that Photo Club meetings would be starting on January 7, 2008. She and Ione Condit have set up a plan for membership. All Photo Club members must be members of the Computer Club and pay the $5.00 fee because they will be using the digital projector in the classes. The club will cover both film and digital cameras.

Program - Gary asked how many members had visited Ebay, how many had sold or purchase things on Ebay. A number of members have sold everything from automobiles to their trash. Never send goods until the money has been paid. Include the cost of shipping and handling in your price. Use PayPal Bank for buying and selling. Ebay has a tutorial on using their service. Use it.
Gary - We should invite and pay area experts to speak at our meetings. Members voted to meet next week.

Vice President Gary Puro opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes. No corrections, vote to accept. Treasurer Ann Iverson reported income from dues $20.00, ink $5.00 and movie $29.00. Expense for ink, $10.00. New Balance, $1348.85. No corrections, vote to accept.

Ann Iverson announced that the Rincon Station P.O. employees will hold their Christmas Party in the Fiesta Room, tomorrow night. They will use our projector and sound system. She asked for volunteers to check occasionally and see if they need help with the video or audio. They pay for use of the equipment.
She then introduced the need for a new movie screen. The present one is tearing at the bottom. Discussion about screen size, upgrading to electric with remote and cost. Gary Puro asked Ann to coordinate with the Entertainer’s Club and the Park management about the purchase and bring back a report.

Janee Aronoff announced her retirement as Chairperson for the Dinner Committee, citing personal reasons. A motion was made to cancel the dinner, a vote was taken, the Nays prevailed. A sign up sheet was passed around and members designated the jobs they could perform to make the dinner a success. A motion was made to allow the members who worked, to eat without buying a ticket. Motion passed. A motion to amend the previous motion was made, “To restrict free meals to workers who put in long hours or do heavy lifting”. Motion passed.

Al Mendenhall reminded the members that use of the Club’s computer was restricted to club business. Ann Iverson encouraged attendance at the Movie tonight. Gary Puro passed out a Computer Club Program Survey that addressed meeting procedures, time length and program topics.

Janee Aronoff suggested providing ac hookups with surge protectors for use by laptop users at meetings. A motion to allow Margaret Innes to purchase 4 surge controls and 4 extension cords was made and passed. Glenn Butler donated 2 ink cartridges o the club. Julian Babad ask for help with an operating system problem He was told to use “System Restore” and assured it would not delete any recent data. More scam warnings. President Ardell Easterday opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the minutes of the last meeting. President Easterday asked if there were any corrections. Vice President Gary Puro said that on line 15, the word “city” should be “State”. The correction was made. Treasurer Ann Iverson reported income of
$8.00 from dues and ink and expenses of $48.90 for a cable and paper for our printers and costs incurred in putting on the Friday night movies. New balance is $1304.85.

President Easterday and Vice President Puro spoke about programs on our computers and that they are using space even when you are not using them. Our President also showed an article from the newspaper, the Arizona Daily Star. The reader advocate, Debbie Kornmiller, provided an outstanding website address for anyone who is a newcomer to Tucson.

Several members compained about all the “spam” they are receiving in their email. This led to a discussion about emails that are meant to bilk you out of money.

Movie sign up sheets, for volunteers, to help set up the Fiesta Room, to clean up after and to pop the popcorn were well filled out. We still need helpers to set up tables and chairs for our meetings.

Janee Aronov, Chairperson for the Dinner Committee, asked for guidance on planning and details. A program on using Power Point will be given after January 1, 2008. Member Edwina Dale’s beginners class for computer users is full. A sign up sheet for the next class is in the “White Book” at the Activities Office.

New Business - Gary Puro gave a demonstration on connecting the club computer to the digital projector for use in future meetings. The use of visuals greatly enhances the learning process.

The sign up sheet for volunteers to show, or assist in showing, the Friday night movies has been posted. Ann Iverson has opened a NetFlix account and chosen a short list of movies. A list will be provided to the editor of the FHTV weekly newsletter for inclusion in the ads for the Friday night movies. A sign up sheet will be provided for movie attendees to write down the names of movies they would like to see

The Club dinner is scheduled for January 27, 2008.

New Business - Gary Puro gave a seminar on finding people using internet resources. School class reunions and military unit reunions are some of the first that come to mind. Rosters are available for many organizations. Social Security Death Index is a source for uncommon surnames. The first three numbers identify the State in which the card was first issued. A White Pages search in that State may find your person or a relative who can help you. The military has a central site to access personnel records. Contact school alumni organizations or the school records. Use an internet site like classmates.com.

President Ardell Easterday opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes of the November 9, 2007 meeting.
Treasurer Ann Iverson reported previous balance of $1318.57, income from dues $35.00, for a new balance of $1353.57.

President Easterday introduced the subject of the clubs annual dinner. She pointed out that discussion was fruitless unless we can find a person willing to serve as Chairperson for a dinner commitee. Janee Aronoff volunteered to serve. Ione Condit offered to put on the entertainment program at the end of the dinner.

A change of date was announced for the first movie to be shown this season. The new date is Friday,November 30th.

Leatha Hukill reported that FHTV resident, Chris Puro offered a movie from her private collection for showing. Other members then offered to loan films for showing. A sign-up sheet will be posted for those members willing to help put on the movies. Vice President and Program Chairman Gary Puro will provide the Clubs program schedule to the editor of the FHTV weekly newsletter.

New Business - How to make your own blog. Go to www.blogger.com or www.blogspot.com and you will be guided step by step through the procedure.
Members with laptops were busily making blogs and were surrounded by other members observing and learning. Other members went to the info.com room where Ann Iverson introduced them to the new club computer with a Vista OS.
A good time was had by all.

Ardell Easterday, President opened the meeting. Dolores Dewey, Acting Secretary failed to bring a copy of the Minutes of the last meeting. Member Janee Aronoff read the Minutes from the Club’s Blog.(fhtv.blogspot.com). Treasurer Ann Iverson read the treasurer’s report. A new Gateway computer, including printer and 2 year warranty, was purchased for $730.99. A desk, including warranty, was purchased for $64.03. Twelve memberships paid, $5.00 each, for a total of $60.00. New Balance - $1318.57.

New wiring has been installed in the info.com room for our computer.

Old Business, member Janee Aronoff wished to revisit the discussion about the Friday night movies and the annual club dinner. Ann Iverson and Dolores Dewey agreed to put on a movie starting in December. Treasurer Iverson will set up a NetFlix account for the movies. President Easterday asked for other volunteers to sign up for “movie duty”. Decision about the dinner was again postponed.

Janee Aronoff put on a program about using a Flash Drive. She put the flash drive into a usb port and using click and drag she placed photos and data onto the storage device.
She also explained her new internet access device, from Verizon, it uses a usb port and cell towers. Some cameras can download their stored photos onto the flash drive to clear their cards and take more photos,

Seventeen members and guests attended.

Ardell Easterday, President opened the meeting. New Officers introduced themselves, Gary Puro, Vice President and Program Chairman, Ann Iverson, Treasurer, Dolores Dewey, Acting Secretary.

Treasurer Ann Iverson reported the purchase, this past summer, of a new desk and a used monitor for the club computer made available for public use. Leaving a balance of $2053.59. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the minutes from March 23, 2007, the final meeting of the 2006/2007 season.

President Easterday announced that meetings would start at 9:00 am and end by 10:00 am on Fridays. Members sign in log has been discontinued. Dues remain at $5.00/yr. At the time of payment, please give your name and space number. Your email address, if you wish it published, is optional.

Under old business, should we continue to provide Friday night movies? It was decided to postpone this decision until after the Holidays. A discussion ensued as to the necessity of having a Computer Club Dinner in light of the size of the Club’s bank account. Member Jean LaVoie Moved to cancel the Computer Club Dinner for the ’07/’08 season, Phyllis Randall Seconded the Motion. No vote was taken. Vice President Gary Puro Moved to “Postpone the Motion to a future date”. After some reflection members concurred.

President Ardell Easterday introduced the subject of the new computer that the Club had voted for last Spring. This computer would be for the exclusive use of Club members and would be password protected. Earl Reddick volunteered to accompany Treasurer Ann Iverson and Vice President Gary Puro and aid in choosing an appropriate computer.

Discussions - Members have experienced problems with Nomad, the wifi provider. Answer, call their Customer Service. The new Vista OS comes with very good photo programs. Walgreens photo department (at the corner of Broadway and Jessica) will refill your empty ink cartridges.

My husband is well on the way to recovery from open heart surgery in June so we're looking forward to some fun times starting next month. Twenty one members attended the final meeting of this spring.

Ann Iverson, in coming treasurer, reported we have a balance on hand of $2,123.73. This is the final report from Jean LaVoie, treasurer .

Under old business, Jeff Neeper moved and Glenda Sutherland seconded that Ann Iverson be given the authority to discard the old computer if and when it dies.

Members were given the assignment to bring back to the group a list of internet sites they have found useful over the summer.

The final program of the year was presented by Janee Aronoff using
Our Photo shop 5 software. Among other things, she made a collage using photos she had taken and downloaded of the Grand Canyon.

Margaret Gunther requested guidelines on purchasing a digital camera. A 5 mega pixel with 12x optical zoom was suggested with a view finder and one that the lens is not easily covered with ones hand.
In other words, a point and shoot.

Making a web page was touched on briefly. Front Page is suggested software . This could possibly be a program for next year.

Ardell Easterday with 25+ members present.
Treasurer Jean La Voie reported a balance of $2,142.82.

Under old business, The activity office will hand out to our members, paper that we supply, for the printer when the printer is empty. We will still put .10 cents in the box per copy.
A question was asked regarding WiFi reception and responses from good to bad. One suggestion was to go to NomadISP.com and sign in.
Ann inquired if she had permission to discard our old computer when it dies. No one dissented . She was reminded that the hard drives should be removed and she will do that.

Bob Rogers asked if someone would like to study up on Power Point to benefit the Entertainers Club as well as our group. Margaret Inness volunteered.

It was decided that we will install Vista on our club laptop immediately after our regular and last meeting of the year which will be March 23rd and those interested are welcome to stay and learn.

Treasurer Jean LaVoie reported we have a balance of $2,079.82.

Ann Iverson gave the report from the nominating committee. Next years officers were nominated as follows: Pres. Ardell Easterday, Vice Pres. Gary Puro, Co Sec. Dolores Dewey and Ruth Van Matre, Co Treas. Ann Iverson and Jeff Neeper. As there were no nominations from the floor,
all of the above were voted in unanimously .

There was some discussion on the rapid disappearance of paper from the printer .. The topic was postponed until the next meeting.

A very informative program was presented by Michael and Janee Aronoff on using E Bay and Pay Pal. Our ability to project on the large screen adds a great deal to our programs as they were able to show while telling how to navigate the various sites.One must register first thing and list a credit card number or one could use a debit card with a small balance available, a credit card that is just for that purpose, or a passbook acct.
Most feel E Bay is a safer site than most online companies. Pay Pall is a bank that pays a higher interest rate than most banks. Michael suggested that Sunday is the best day to end an auction as most people have the time to add to their bids. A site to remember is---pages.E Bay.com/education/ index.HTM

Treasurer Jean La Voie announced a balance of $2,049.79 which included dues from three new members.

Ardell reminded those here with laptops that they should unplug them from power if they are not being used for 8 hours or more to preserve the life of the battery.

The nominating committee gave their report and nominations from the floor will be open at the next meeting.

The program on E Bay was postponed until next week so Bob Rogers demonstrated the purpose and use of a flash drive on the club computer.
A 1 gig is usually recommended if you need large capacity. This is considered the F drive.

There were 25 members present.

Under new business, Ann Iverson reported on her research for purchasing a new desktop computer. She looked at a HP with 1 gig and 250 hard drive that is on sale for $489.89 that sounded good.
It was decided that the purchasing of a new computer will be taken up at a board meeting following this meeting.

Ardell reminded the members they are to sign the check in sheet on the bulletin board in room AB when they start to use the computer and when they log off with a 30 minute limit .

An interesting program was presented on genealogy by Dolores Dewey and her committee composed of Ruth Van Meter, Wanda Geer, Paul Scarlata, & Bette Crumrine. We were given a handout so we can all research our ancestors!

After much discussion we decided to hold off on purchasing a new computer until we return in the fall. There might be some updates on the Vista operating system by then.

Phyllis Randall has agreed to keep the club laptop at her trailer over the summer.

The computer club will resume meetings the first Friday in November.

The board of directors shall establish rules for the use of all club equipment and software which will be posted in room AB. Noncompliance on three (3) occasions will result in returning members’ dues and expulsion from computer club.

The meeting was called to order in the Fiesta Room and minutes were read on the blog projected on the screen. Jean La Voie, treasurer reported we have a balance of $2,241.71. There were 29 members in attendance.

Janee will put all of the information regarding preparing and serving our annual Computer Club dinner on the blog, including Jim Pederson’s famous meat loaf recipe ( with out his permission, gulp). A suggestion was made to cut butter quarters in half next year as we wasted a lot.

There will be no meeting next week and the following week the group that has shown interest in genealogy will present a program.

It was stated that by going to power options one can save electricity by putting a computer in hibernate or sleep mode and setting it to come on after 30-45 minutes of inactivity and standby after 15 minutes.

Bob Rogers installed our new Office Home and Student Software during the meeting and showed us some of the features. Notepad was new to most of us.

Computer Club Dinner

Computer Club Dinner Recipe and shopping tips as of 2006

Meat Loaf

14# seasoned pork, frozen rolls; 4 should be hot seasoned; best place to buy = Save A Lot
44# 80% hamburger meat; negotiate with Sunflower/ Save A Lot etc. Will probably be better than Costco, but check there also.
(we increased all the amounts because we ended up serving about 210 meals, and we wanted to make big servings.)
3 doz. Eggs
2 large loaves white bread cut up (cheap white bread)
1 gallon whole milk
16 large yellow onions chopped in LARGE pieces ( ½ inch; do not dice small)
1 large bottle worchestershire sauce
Other spices:
9 Tablespoons Lawrys Seasoning Salt
3 mounded tablespoons: poultry seasoning, dry mustard, black pepper, garlic salt: mix dry spices together and divide by 4

Divide the rest of the ingredients by 4 and mix each large bowl/pan.. Prepare six roasters with water in the bottom; test each one. Divide the meat loaf mix between six large oval pans from Frys, bend the slightly to fit the roasters. Pat the mixture firmly and spread ketchup on top before cooking.

Keep some water in the bottom of each roaster (outside the meat mixture!) and turn the heat all the way up. Cook until thermometer shows 160 degrees then turn to low until time to cut and serve. The roasters vary in cooking time, so check often. Leave at least 2 hours for cooking. Don’t over cook! Keep the lids on; essential for moistness.

Potatoes

60# red potatoes, cut in ¼ or 1/6 (some like them smaller)
Sprinkle with salt (we used seasoned salt) pepper, dry parsley and vegetable oil. (we used a full litre of oil on 8 pans of potatoes

Cook in HOT oven 500 degrees. (at 450 it took more than two hours in 06!) Stir at least once and rotate between ovens as the right one is hotter. We used 8 pans to fill both ovens.

Corn

9 #10 cans of corn
2 pounds of butter
3 bunches green onions chopped (use most of the green)
5 peppers, mix of red, orange and green, or just red
Saute green onions and pepper until soft and divide between two large aluminum pans of corn and butter: warm slowly over an hour or so.

Salad

8 large bags of Dole salad mix from Costco (25 servings from each bag)
4 bottles Vidalia honey Mustard dressing (unless you can find something else on sale! We used hand me down ranch and it was popular) Pre mix dressing and put on table; takes too long for people to put on themselves at end of serving line)

Cake

5 filled slab cakes from Costco. Get the ones that are scored in the icing for 48 pieces per cake (each has a rose!) Get as many combinations of cake color, icing and filling as possible; people love the ritual of trading cakes at the tables! (HINT: tear down the sides of the box and use dental floss to cut the cake; less messy and quicker than with knives; downside is no knives to lick!

Rolls and Butter

Bags of rolls for 200 + Costco has them, but I’m not sure you couldn’t negotiate better at one of the other in-store bakeries. We divided up six pounds of butter to put on the tables and most of it was eaten.

Things We Learned

I pre-shopped before we set the price for the dinner. This made final shopping the day before the dinner much easier and gave confidence we would make the profit we wanted.

Costco is great for most of the stuff, but not everything.

Costco: salad, corn, potatoes, small dinner plates, square pans for potatoes, catsup, salad/ cake plates, butter, rolls and cakes.

Sunflower: ground beef, yellow onions, green onions, red, orange and green peppers.

Frys: oil, bread, all the spices, meat loaf oval baking pans.

Save A Lot: frozen spiced pork. (This was a big savings, and good. I would suggest checking with them for the hamburger also)

We barely got things cooked again! Leave plenty of time and start the meatloaf and potatoes around 2pm if dinner time is 5pm. The potatoes can be covered with foil if they have to wait in a warm oven for awhile, and the meatloaf will be fine if left covered on low.

Outside the kitchen:

What a crew! Things went very quickly and smoothly during seating, and the serving was the quickest anybody had ever seen! Great job.

Two thoughts: we forgot to take care of the disabled. We don’t want walkers in the line, and not everyone has a helper. Maybe we could designate helpers to serve them first. Also it would be nice for groups to be able to sit together if it is not too difficult to arrange.

Thanks to everyone for stepping forward to help out. I don’t know how much fun you had out front, but we had a blast in the kitchen.

Oh, and we made good money too!

The meeting was called to order in the Fiesta Room and the minutes were read and approved. Treasurer Jean La Voie reported a balance of
$2,229.55. Our profit on our very successful dinner was $877.22. All those who worked on the dinner were thanked for their help, especially Bob, Claire, Dolores,Jean, and Ray who were the cooks.

Bob Rogers plans to write a detailed report including recipes and amounts to facilitate future dinner plans.

Under new business, Al Mendenhall made a motion and Bob seconded it that we purchase the Office Home and Student Software that includes power point, excel and word and Adobe Photoshop for the club laptop. Ann Iverson will purchase them at CostCo.

Those present were asked to sign one of four interest sheets for future programs. They are: E Bay, Geneology,Business and Greeting Cards, and Working With Digital Photos.

Al showed us how we can track financial info using Yahoo and also showed on the screen the update on the FHTV invest he had been tracking for five of his committee members. Ann told us how easy and safe it is to do our banking on line using Microsoft Money. She gave us handouts on various uses for Money software.

Ann Iverson reported that our Computer Club dinner has sold out! Bob reminded those working on the dinner to remain after this meeting for the final meeting regarding the dinner on Sunday.

Janee Aronoff suggested the following three topics for future programs: Geneology, E Bay, and Working with digital photos.

Julian Babad, our first Computer Club president ,presented a program on useful government sites, projected many on the screen and illustrated how several can be used. Some of these are: irs.gov,nhtsa (auto lemons),nps.gov(national parks),loc.gov(hard to find books), statelocalgov.net, nhtsa.dot.gov (recalls). This is just a sample of sites he has used .

A motion was passed to have Lew Hatfield run off a limited number of E mail lists for those who want them as apparently several do not. This list includes former members who have sent in $2.00 to keep in touch.

JANUARY 19, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 8:50 a.m. in the fiesta room with 26 members in attendance. Minutes from the previous meeting were projected on the screen for members to read. The treasury balance is now $1,239.33. Latest count shows 64 paid up members. New members were asked to introduce themselves.

Bob Rogers reminded us there will be an organizational meeting for all those working on the computer club dinner immediately after the computer club meeting on January 26th. Ardell reminded all members to push ticket sales. Our intent is to allocate the box office admissions from some of the Friday night movies to the Entertainers Club, Pioneer Club, and the chorus providing we sell enough tickets to our dinner.

Al Mendenhall was asked who was in the lead with their “portfolio” at this point and it is Ann Iverson with Jean La Voie bringing up the rear--more next week!

Margaret Guenther was the presenter today for the program on using the computer for a telephone. The committee consisted of Margaret, Dolores Dewey, Edna Nugent, and Ardell Easterday. Handouts were given on using Google Talk, Skype, and JAJAH.com. Unless your computer has a built in microphone you need to purchase one. Google talk was briefly presented using the club computer and two who were connected to WiFi. Glenda Sutherland has used Skype and Edna has used JAJAH so they may be willing to answer your questions on those two ways of calling .

The meeting was called to order at 8:50 a.m. in the fiesta room.
Treasurer Jean La Voie announced there is a balance of $1,150.30 after an expenditure of $96.18 for print cartridges. There were 32 in attendance.

Bob Rogers asked that all those who have signed up to help with the computer club dinner which is to be held on Jan. 28th meet at 9:45 immediately after the computer club meeting on Jan 26. There is a list in the Villager of those selling tickets and Ann Iverson will sell them in the lobby this next Sat. and Sunday. Encourage your friends to come!

A question was raised regarding WiFi. No one is satisfied with our reception at this point and refunds are possible, if worse comes to worst. Hopefully kinks will be wiped out eventually. Lets just say “they” are working on it.

The program scheduled for today was on social networking and as Bob Rogers (man of the hour) had more experience with it he took over and presented a program bringing up both Google and Yahoo and illustrated different interest groups that we can check out by just typing in groups.

Al Mendenhall, who is part of the “financial group presenters” illustrated part of their presentation which will be completed on Feb 2nd. He and five friends each were given a fictional $3,000 to invest in four companies and at the end of a given time they will see who was the shrewdest investor.

Minutes of Board Meeting

A special board meeting was called for by member Al Mendenhall.
Those attending were; Michael Aronoff, Janee Aronoff, Ann Iverson, Bob Rogers, Jean LaVoie, Phyllis Randall, and Ardell Easterday.

At this meeting we regretfully accepted the resignations of both Michael and Janee Aronoff due do the declining health of Michael and the stress on them both. The remaining board members have agreed to carry on for the duration of the year. The club computer purchased for programs will be passed around to various members for club presentations. Phyllis Randall being a part of the first presenting group has it for now.

JANUARY 5, 2007

The minutes of the December 29 meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer Jean La Voie reported a balance on hand of $1,190.40.
There were 26 members present.

Under old business President Michael reported that the home page cannot be changed on our new Dell club computer.

Our computer club dinner is scheduled for January 28th and Bob Rogers went around during the meeting and signed up members for various duties.
He and Claire have offered to put on a free program following the dinner.

Vice President Janee Aronoff announced the following schedule for the three groups that were set up at last weeks meeting: Jan 12th on Social Networking with suggestions as: Youtube.com, smugmug. com, blogspot.com, myspace.com, and livejournal. com.; Jan 19th on Internet Phone;
Feb. 2 Financial Planning. Each group is asked to prepare a print out to hand out to each member at the time of their presentation.

Park manager, Jo Anne, attended the meeting to update us on WiFi which is now available in the park at the cost of $5 per week, $10 per month, or $30 for the year. A free one day pass is available at the gate or clubhouse office. The three Nomad connections are G-1 at the clubhouse, R1 at the sawmill, and R2 at the gate. It is recommended that your firewall be disconnected prior to connection to WiFi as Nomad has its own firewall.

Al Mendenhall requested a board meeting be scheduled following this meeting.

The membership then divided up into their three groups for a work session.

Vice President Janee Aronoff introduced herself and President Mike Aronoff and asked that we all wear our nametags to the meetings so she can learn our names.

The minutes were read from the December 13th meeting. Treasurer Jean LaVoie read the treasurer's report showing a balance of $1155.29.

It was reported that our park should be connected to WiFi by next Friday and at that time we will be notified as to the yearly charge.

Edwina Dale’s class on computer basics that meets Wed. mornings at 9:00 a.m. in room AB is going well.

Janee had those present divide into three groups according to the interest shown on the survey she handed out. Those groups are--financial management, personal networking, and computer phone. We will research our topic and bring the info along with a print out to a future meeting.

Free programs that we should all install on our computers are: anti virus, firewall, ad aware, and anti spy ware-(spybot search and destroy). These are all free programs, some through AVG which can be accessed by typing into Google "AVG free" and checking version 7.5

Discussion followed on getting rid of spam and the answer is get a new E mail address and use a “throw away” address if need to order something on line.

Also discussed was how to transfer your address book, and never sending to multiple addresses without using “blind copy”.

Ann Iverson will check on purchasing Office software for our club computer.

December 15, 2006

The meeting was called to order by President Mike Aronoff in the Fiesta Room with 25 members present. The treasury has a balance of $2,224.58. The minutes and treasury report can now be read on our blog which is FHTV.blogspot.com. and will not be read at the meeting. Next week's meeting will be cancelled due to Christmas events.

Bob Rogers announced that the Pedersens will not be here by Jan. 28th,the scheduled date for the Computer Club Dinner and he will contact them to get the recipe for the meat loaf and we’ll try to carry on without them.

Pres. Mike pointed out the new Dell laptop purchased for the club and selected by Al, Bob, and Edwina. It will be in the possession of the club program chair. With it we were able to enjoy a presentation of many sites related to Christmas from cards, to games, to crafts put on our blog by program chair, Janee Aronoff.

Al Mendenhall nominated Phyllis Randall for board member-at-large and motion passed unanimously. This is a one-year term.

A question was asked about automatic updates and some let them take place automatically and some screen them for content and convenient time.

Twenty five members were in attendance at the meeting presided over by President Mike Aronoff. The treasury has a balance of $2,204.90.

Program chair Janee Aronoff handed out the survey she had put on our blog for those who had not completed it.

An impromptu board meeting was held due to a time element to discuss the purchase of a laptop to be used for programs.. Al Mendenhall, Bob Rogers and Edwina Dale will be a committee of three to purchase said item.

Software for Photoshop was suggested at $49.95 and our club computer will be checked to see if that purchase is feasible.

The subject of today’s program was “changing file associations” and those with laptops went through some of the exercises. Janee handed out a printout on File Association after her presentation. It is recommended that those with laptops bring them to each meeting. The subject for each week’s program will be on our club “blog”
