COMPUTER CLUB MEETING
November 23, 2007



9 members attended.

President Ardell Easterday opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes. Treasurer Ann Iverson reported a previous balance of $1353.57,
income from dues $5.00, new balance $1358.57.

The sign up sheet for volunteers to show, or assist in showing, the Friday night movies has been posted. Ann Iverson has opened a NetFlix account and chosen a short list of movies. A list will be provided to the editor of the FHTV weekly newsletter for inclusion in the ads for the Friday night movies. A sign up sheet will be provided for movie attendees to write down the names of movies they would like to see

The Club dinner is scheduled for January 27, 2008.

New Business - Gary Puro gave a seminar on finding people using internet resources. School class reunions and military unit reunions are some of the first that come to mind. Rosters are available for many organizations. Social Security Death Index is a source for uncommon surnames. The first three numbers identify the State in which the card was first issued. A White Pages search in that State may find your person or a relative who can help you. The military has a central site to access personnel records. Contact school alumni organizations or the school records. Use an internet site like classmates.com.

17 members and guests attended.

President Ardell Easterday opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes of the November 9, 2007 meeting.
Treasurer Ann Iverson reported previous balance of $1318.57, income from dues $35.00, for a new balance of $1353.57.

President Easterday introduced the subject of the clubs annual dinner. She pointed out that discussion was fruitless unless we can find a person willing to serve as Chairperson for a dinner commitee. Janee Aronoff volunteered to serve. Ione Condit offered to put on the entertainment program at the end of the dinner.

A change of date was announced for the first movie to be shown this season. The new date is Friday,November 30th.

Leatha Hukill reported that FHTV resident, Chris Puro offered a movie from her private collection for showing. Other members then offered to loan films for showing. A sign-up sheet will be posted for those members willing to help put on the movies. Vice President and Program Chairman Gary Puro will provide the Clubs program schedule to the editor of the FHTV weekly newsletter.

New Business - How to make your own blog. Go to www.blogger.com or www.blogspot.com and you will be guided step by step through the procedure.
Members with laptops were busily making blogs and were surrounded by other members observing and learning. Other members went to the info.com room where Ann Iverson introduced them to the new club computer with a Vista OS.
A good time was had by all.

Fifteen members and guests attended.

Ardell Easterday, President opened the meeting. Dolores Dewey, Acting Secretary failed to bring a copy of the Minutes of the last meeting. Member Janee Aronoff read the Minutes from the Club’s Blog.(fhtv.blogspot.com). Treasurer Ann Iverson read the treasurer’s report. A new Gateway computer, including printer and 2 year warranty, was purchased for $730.99. A desk, including warranty, was purchased for $64.03. Twelve memberships paid, $5.00 each, for a total of $60.00. New Balance - $1318.57.

New wiring has been installed in the info.com room for our computer.

Old Business, member Janee Aronoff wished to revisit the discussion about the Friday night movies and the annual club dinner. Ann Iverson and Dolores Dewey agreed to put on a movie starting in December. Treasurer Iverson will set up a NetFlix account for the movies. President Easterday asked for other volunteers to sign up for “movie duty”. Decision about the dinner was again postponed.

Janee Aronoff put on a program about using a Flash Drive. She put the flash drive into a usb port and using click and drag she placed photos and data onto the storage device.
She also explained her new internet access device, from Verizon, it uses a usb port and cell towers. Some cameras can download their stored photos onto the flash drive to clear their cards and take more photos,

Seventeen members and guests attended.

Ardell Easterday, President opened the meeting. New Officers introduced themselves, Gary Puro, Vice President and Program Chairman, Ann Iverson, Treasurer, Dolores Dewey, Acting Secretary.

Treasurer Ann Iverson reported the purchase, this past summer, of a new desk and a used monitor for the club computer made available for public use. Leaving a balance of $2053.59. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the minutes from March 23, 2007, the final meeting of the 2006/2007 season.

President Easterday announced that meetings would start at 9:00 am and end by 10:00 am on Fridays. Members sign in log has been discontinued. Dues remain at $5.00/yr. At the time of payment, please give your name and space number. Your email address, if you wish it published, is optional.

Under old business, should we continue to provide Friday night movies? It was decided to postpone this decision until after the Holidays. A discussion ensued as to the necessity of having a Computer Club Dinner in light of the size of the Club’s bank account. Member Jean LaVoie Moved to cancel the Computer Club Dinner for the ’07/’08 season, Phyllis Randall Seconded the Motion. No vote was taken. Vice President Gary Puro Moved to “Postpone the Motion to a future date”. After some reflection members concurred.

President Ardell Easterday introduced the subject of the new computer that the Club had voted for last Spring. This computer would be for the exclusive use of Club members and would be password protected. Earl Reddick volunteered to accompany Treasurer Ann Iverson and Vice President Gary Puro and aid in choosing an appropriate computer.

Discussions - Members have experienced problems with Nomad, the wifi provider. Answer, call their Customer Service. The new Vista OS comes with very good photo programs. Walgreens photo department (at the corner of Broadway and Jessica) will refill your empty ink cartridges.
