December 28, 2007

President Gary Puro opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes. Corrections - there is no www in the Club’s blog address and the next meeting today and not January 4, 2008. Corrections made. Treasurer Anne Iverson reported income from Dues $10.00, new Balance $1456.85. Accepted as read.
Anne Iverson reviewed the sign up sheet for the Club dinner workers. Al Mendenhall agreed to print the 200 dinner tickets. The key board for the public computer is no longer functioning. If we do not have a spare in storage, permission was given to purchase a new one. Gary Puro asked for suggestions on what to do with the wifi card that was donated to the Club. It was decided that an auction held sometime in January, for Club members only, was the fairest way to handle it. Janee Aronoff will store it until then.

Gary Puro asked if there were any formal rules for Club members. He was given a copy of the By Laws and a copy of our Mission Statement. He read both aloud, for the benefit of our new members. Ann Iverson brought the Membership Roster and asked why so many members were not attending meetings. Janee Aronoff said that when we resume regular instructional programs, in January, they will probably come. Gary Puro said there is a Power Point program coming in January. Anne Iverson stated that Jane Czasnowski will relate how she made $5000.00 on Ebay.

Q & A Time - Gary Puro solved the problem of the errant cursor on his new wireless keyboard. He clicked on Orientation. Janee Aronoff said her teaching website has been hacked and she hasn’t been able to fix it. Al Mendenhall has been transfering his movies from film onto his computer for storage on cds. They have flickers of light in them. He was told there are commercial businesses that will do it for you. More program suggestions, How to use Google, Excel, Works and the fun of Games and social networking. Next weeks program: freerice.com. Ask the Villager to put our program next to our listing.

Acting President Gary Puro opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes. Ardell Easterday offered a correction to the Minutes. Her resignation at the December 14 meeting was omitted. Correction was made. Treasurer Ann Iverson reported income from Dues $5.00, Movie $35.00. New Balance $1446.85. Accepted as read.
Gary Puro reminded members that the Minutes could be read at the Computer Club’s blog (fhtv.blogspot.com).

Committee Reports - Margaret Innes researched AC hookups for laptops to save batteries. Surge controls available for $20-25 each, 25 ft drop cords for $10.00 each. Ann Iverson reported that new 102" movie screens, able to use HD, were available for $246.00. She spoke to FHTV Manager Joanne Sanford about sharing the cost to replace the screen. Manager Sanford seemed amenable to going to an electric controlled screen if replacement became necessary. She also said the sound system is going to be upgraded . Discussion about screen purchase followed: research prices online, locally and online with a company who could deliver the screen to their branch in the Tucson area. Ann Iverson and Marcel DeWulf have developed a “Internet Access Procedure” sheet to be posted in the Info.com room where the 2 computers are located and where laptop owners have access to a broadband connector. In addition, transients and residents can access the internet via their telephone(dial up or broadband), satellite tv, Nomad’s park wide wifi$ or the computer club’s free wifi available in the club house area.

Old subject revisited - Many users of the info.com room computers are still failing to log off when finished with their session. Member Janee Aronoff offered to print an instruction sheet on how to log off, for both computers, and post it in a prominent place in the Info.com room. Ardell Easterday asked for an instruction sheet on how to use the 3way printers, also. Ardell said member Al Mendenhall had been contacted by Dell about extending the warranty on the Computer Clubs private computer. Motion made and approved not to extend. Gary Puro will give a full report on his Survey in January. Ann announced, no movie tonight. Meeting adjourned.

December 14, 2007

14 persons were present.

President Ardell Easterday called the meeting to order. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the minutes. Treasurer Ann Iverson reported income from Dues $15.00, Movie $53.00, new Balance $1406.85.
Program Chairman Gary Puro asked for the completed Survey sheets to be turned in. Both computers were down last week because of an interruption of the electrical system last Friday evening. They were put back in service by Jonathon, the technician employed by the Park.
President Easterday asked for a review of the Club dinner. Sign up sheets are well filled, but no one has volunteered to prepare the meat loaf and to oversee the cooking of the food.

Two members complained that the Activities Office is reluctant to help with use of the info.com room computer. The one the club provides for the residents and transients to access their email and the internet. The Office feels that the computer club should provide this service. Member Marcel DeWulf volunteered to work with Ann Iverson to prepare a sheet with step by step instructions to access the Internet on the public computer.

New Business - Janee Aronoff announced that Photo Club meetings would be starting on January 7, 2008. She and Ione Condit have set up a plan for membership. All Photo Club members must be members of the Computer Club and pay the $5.00 fee because they will be using the digital projector in the classes. The club will cover both film and digital cameras.

Program - Gary asked how many members had visited Ebay, how many had sold or purchase things on Ebay. A number of members have sold everything from automobiles to their trash. Never send goods until the money has been paid. Include the cost of shipping and handling in your price. Use PayPal Bank for buying and selling. Ebay has a tutorial on using their service. Use it.
Gary - We should invite and pay area experts to speak at our meetings. Members voted to meet next week.

Vice President Gary Puro opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the Minutes. No corrections, vote to accept. Treasurer Ann Iverson reported income from dues $20.00, ink $5.00 and movie $29.00. Expense for ink, $10.00. New Balance, $1348.85. No corrections, vote to accept.

Ann Iverson announced that the Rincon Station P.O. employees will hold their Christmas Party in the Fiesta Room, tomorrow night. They will use our projector and sound system. She asked for volunteers to check occasionally and see if they need help with the video or audio. They pay for use of the equipment.
She then introduced the need for a new movie screen. The present one is tearing at the bottom. Discussion about screen size, upgrading to electric with remote and cost. Gary Puro asked Ann to coordinate with the Entertainer’s Club and the Park management about the purchase and bring back a report.

Janee Aronoff announced her retirement as Chairperson for the Dinner Committee, citing personal reasons. A motion was made to cancel the dinner, a vote was taken, the Nays prevailed. A sign up sheet was passed around and members designated the jobs they could perform to make the dinner a success. A motion was made to allow the members who worked, to eat without buying a ticket. Motion passed. A motion to amend the previous motion was made, “To restrict free meals to workers who put in long hours or do heavy lifting”. Motion passed.

Al Mendenhall reminded the members that use of the Club’s computer was restricted to club business. Ann Iverson encouraged attendance at the Movie tonight. Gary Puro passed out a Computer Club Program Survey that addressed meeting procedures, time length and program topics.

Janee Aronoff suggested providing ac hookups with surge protectors for use by laptop users at meetings. A motion to allow Margaret Innes to purchase 4 surge controls and 4 extension cords was made and passed. Glenn Butler donated 2 ink cartridges o the club. Julian Babad ask for help with an operating system problem He was told to use “System Restore” and assured it would not delete any recent data. More scam warnings. President Ardell Easterday opened the meeting. Acting Secretary Dolores Dewey read the minutes of the last meeting. President Easterday asked if there were any corrections. Vice President Gary Puro said that on line 15, the word “city” should be “State”. The correction was made. Treasurer Ann Iverson reported income of
$8.00 from dues and ink and expenses of $48.90 for a cable and paper for our printers and costs incurred in putting on the Friday night movies. New balance is $1304.85.

President Easterday and Vice President Puro spoke about programs on our computers and that they are using space even when you are not using them. Our President also showed an article from the newspaper, the Arizona Daily Star. The reader advocate, Debbie Kornmiller, provided an outstanding website address for anyone who is a newcomer to Tucson.

Several members compained about all the “spam” they are receiving in their email. This led to a discussion about emails that are meant to bilk you out of money.

Movie sign up sheets, for volunteers, to help set up the Fiesta Room, to clean up after and to pop the popcorn were well filled out. We still need helpers to set up tables and chairs for our meetings.

Janee Aronov, Chairperson for the Dinner Committee, asked for guidance on planning and details. A program on using Power Point will be given after January 1, 2008. Member Edwina Dale’s beginners class for computer users is full. A sign up sheet for the next class is in the “White Book” at the Activities Office.

New Business - Gary Puro gave a demonstration on connecting the club computer to the digital projector for use in future meetings. The use of visuals greatly enhances the learning process.
